Is Stress Causing Your Snore?

Posted by admin On August - 24 - 2010

Our bodies are an amazing thing but we always need to be concerned as to whether they are in balance or not. Whenever our bodies get out of balance because of different elements in our life, it can cause a lot of problems for us. One problem that may come about as a result of imbalance is snoring and in order for us to cure this problem, we need to cure the root of the problem, not simply cover it over. What are some different things that can cause us to snore which can be corrected naturally?

There are actually dozens of different things which can cause snoring in us as individuals. Carrying around too much weight on our body, being dehydrated, drinking at night and smoking cigarettes are some examples. Something that shouldn’t be overlooked, however, is the stress that we are going through during the day. This can either be stress that comes about for personal reasons in our life or even as a result of stress that we are feeling at work. Regardless of why it is hitting us, it may create an imbalance in our body which causes us to snore.

Stress is an extremely frustrating thing for us to go through. It can cause us to gain weight and it has a habit of releasing nasty chemicals into our body which cause problems for us whenever we are trying to sleep. Snoring is simply a side effect that we experience as a result of the stress that we feel during the day. If we are able to destress to a certain extent before we go to sleep, we might find that our snoring quiets to a certain extent and that would certainly make it worth the effort.

I find that the hour before going to bed is a very important time of the day to destress and forget about all the worries that you have. Turn off the TV set and be careful not to meditate on anything that is going to cause you to think deeply or stressfully. Listen to some quiet music or perhaps read some poetry in order to help put yourself in the right frame of mind in order to sleep. If all else fails, take a slightly warm bath and drink some warm milk. This will help to release natural chemicals in your body which will help you to get a good nights sleep, hopefully one free of snoring.

Is Your Hair Making You Snore at Night?

Posted by admin On July - 17 - 2010

One of the main reasons why we snore at night is because we have a problem with allergies. Most of us realize that we are allergic to something, usually something that is in the air around our home. During the day, we are subjected to various types of allergens that include everything from tree pollen to dog dander. The one place that we don’t want to be subjected to these allergens is whenever we enter into the bedroom. Why is that the case?

Whenever we sleep, we naturally breathe deeper and this can pull any allergens that are in your bedroom more deeply into your sinuses and lungs. Even those of us who have a very light allergy and are able to deal with it without much trouble will recognize that we are more affected during the night than we are during the day. If you find that you are snoring regularly then you might need to do something in order to get these allergens out of your bedroom. Believe it or not, there may be a culprit in this case that you have not considered before.

Our hair works like a magnet for pollen and during the day, all of the pollen that comes into contact with our hair is going to stick in it to a certain extent. If you have long hair, you can be breathing the pollen all through the night directly from your hair but even if your hair is short, it will transfer to the pillow and then right into your lungs. That is why it’s important to make sure that you wash your hair thoroughly every night before going to bed. It may seem like a simple thing but this is certainly something that you should do and can make a large difference in how much you snore.

Other allergens should also be removed from the bedroom in one way or another. Do not put cologne on before going to bed and trying to avoid any type of scented soaps or shampoos. If the dog sleeps in the bedroom with you, make other arrangements so that you are not breathing the dander through the night. Above all, get a high quality air filter for your bedroom so that you are breathing clean air while you are sleeping. By taking these steps and reducing the amount of allergens that are in your bedroom, you will have the best chance to have a snore free night.

The Secret Connection between Dehydration and Snoring

Posted by admin On July - 5 - 2010

The human body is an amazing thing and whenever it is in perfect balance, we enjoy very good health. Whenever we are born, our body is typically in this balance but shortly after we are born, the imbalances begin to happen. One of the more serious problems that most of us deal with on a regular basis is that of dehydration. Since our body is made up of almost 90% or more water, it is reasonable to think that a lack of water in our body is going to cause a lot of serious health problems. One problem that it may be causing in you is snoring.

There really is only one way for you to find out if your snoring problem is coming about as a result of dehydration. That is to drink additional water on a daily basis along with some salt in order to hydrate yourself properly. This entire process is usually referred to as the water cure and it is a free way for you to be able to improve your health considerably. If you do the water cure properly, you will begin to notice changes in your health to the positive within just a few short days and your snoring should subside or calm down considerably.

The way that you hydrate yourself properly is by drinking half of your body weight every day in ounces of water. For example, if you are a 200 pound man then you should be drinking 100 ounces of water throughout the day. It’s not enough simply to drink water, however, as that much water will typically just flush us out, taking many of the essential minerals with it. In order to give the water an opportunity to do its work, we need to balance it out with some natural sea salt. One quarter tablespoon of salt in every quart of water is a great place to start but you may need to adjust it to your own personal levels.

After your body is hydrated properly, you should notice that your snoring is getting less and less. The real secret is to continue to drink water, even after your body is hydrated properly. That is the only way that you’re going to be able to keep yourself from snoring regularly because if you stop drinking the water, the snoring will simply come back.

Stuffy Nose? No Wonder You Snore

Posted by admin On May - 29 - 2010

Do you have a problem with a stuffy nose? You would probably be surprised with the number of people that do. The next time you think about it, try listening to how many people go around all day sniffing their nose because it is stuffed up. Although there are a lot of reasons why this occurs, it tends to do one thing to us that none of us really enjoy. Having a stuffed up nose whenever we are sleeping is going to cause us to breathe through our mouth naturally which will make any snoring that we do much worse. Not only that, it may cause another problem which is much more harmful, sleep apnea. In order to overcome these problems, you might want to look into why you are having a problem with a stuffy nose in the first place.

The most obvious problem, outside of having a cold, is having a difficult time with allergies. It doesn’t matter where in the world you live or what time of year it is, there is always going to be pollen or allergens in the atmosphere that make it difficult for us to get by. Snoring is simply a side effect of having these allergies because it makes it difficult for us to breathe. Although it is impossible for you to avoid these allergens altogether, you should make sure that your bedroom is as free of them as possible. The reason why this is the case is because you spend more time in the bedroom then you’re going to spend in any other room, regardless of what you do. You also tend to breathe more deeply in the bedroom and this pulls the allergens into your sinuses, causing further problems.

Believe it or not, the way that we tend to get pollen into the bedroom more often than any other is in our hair. Our hair simply collects pollen during the day and then we breathe it in all night long. That is why it is important for you to wash your hair every night before going to bed. Do you have a dog in the bedroom with you? You might want to rethink that kind of sleeping arrangement. Not only are dog allergies one of the worst for making you snore, dogs also tend to move around a lot during the night which can disrupt your sleep as well.

4 Things That Make You Snore

Posted by admin On May - 16 - 2010

There are always going to be things that we do in our life that cause negative effects. One thing that we need to watch out for, however, is that they don’t become such a negative influence on our life that they are affect our health to our detriment. Although many of us do not consider snoring to be something that is life-threatening, it actually can be in the case of sleep apnea. For that reason, you might want to consider these four things that tend to cause snoring in individuals and cut them out of your life if at all possible.

The first two are typically lumped together but they can also be included individually as well. Cigarettes and drinking alcohol both cause us to snore more, especially if we have a difficult time with it in the first place. Cigarettes do affect our breathing and very few people are going to deny that fact. Drinking alcohol can relax the muscles in your throat along with doing other things that make your snoring worse. If you’re at all able, cut down on the amount of smoking that you do or perhaps quit altogether. If you enjoy drinking, try to avoid drinking right before bedtime as this will make the most impact as far as your snoring is concerned.

Another thing that causes snoring is having excess weight on our body. It is thought that if we are able to lose only 10% of our body weight in fat, we would be able to effectively stop snoring or cut it down to the point where it would not be a problem. Although it is not easy to lose weight, if you are snoring, you may actually be putting weight on your body. Sleep deprivation that is caused by snoring makes it difficult for us to lose weight. If we really put our minds to it and follow a good program of diet and exercise, we can be successful with weight loss and notice a large impact on the amount of silent sleep that we get.

Finally, you might want to consider your position while you are sleeping. If you sleep on your back, the muscles in the throat will be constricted more and this will make you snore more. If you want to cut down on your snoring, learn how to sleep on your side or on your stomach. You might have to put some pillows behind your back in order to keep yourself from rolling over at night but this does tend to help your snoring considerably.

Pollen on the Pillow – The Snoring Connection

Posted by admin On April - 17 - 2010

Do you have a difficult time sleeping at night? Perhaps you have been snoring for quite some time and if you have somebody else in the area in which usually sleep, there’s no doubt that they have let you know about this problem. You might be surprised to learn that the solution to the problem that you have may actually be a lot simpler than what you considered in the first place. Often, the reason that we snore is because we have allergies and if you would like to overcome your snoring problem, you simply need to remove the allergens from your environment. How can you do this?

The easiest way for you to accomplish this is to make sure that you are not breathing in the pollen whenever you are sleeping. It is difficult to totally remove pollen from our environment but if we do not do a good job of it at night, it can cause additional problems for us. The reason why this is the case is because we tend to breathe deeply at night and we do not recognize whenever we are getting stuffed up due to the allergens in the area. If you think that this might be a problem for you, here are two different ways that you can solve the problem, at least to a certain extent.

The first thing that you should do is to make sure that you take a shower every night in order to clean any pollen out of your hair that might be hiding. During the day, our hair tends to act as a pollen magnet and you would probably be surprised with the variety and the amount of allergens that hide in this area of our body. Whenever we are sleeping, this pollen transfers to our pillow so it is coming directly into contact with our face during the night. By simply washing our hair before we go to sleep, we reduce the amount of pollen we are breathing in on a nightly basis.

The other thing that you can do is to include a high quality air filter in your room. Don’t fall for one of the gimmicky filters, talk to your allergist about filters that actually work to remove pollen effectively. These tend to make a little bit of noise but many people find that they sleep better with the noise in the room. More than likely, a combination of these two things is going to help you to reduce your snoring considerably.

Why Weight Makes You Snore – and How to Fix It

Posted by admin On March - 28 - 2010

There are a number of different reasons why we snore and you might be surprised to learn that almost everybody snores on occasion. There are some of us, however, that tend to snore so loudly and so often that the situation almost becomes chronic. It is not only difficult for those of us who are dealing with snoring because it affects our sleep but it is also difficult for anybody that has to sleep with us. You might be surprised to learn that excess weight on your body is one of the top causes of snoring. Not that the weight causes the snoring but it irritates the situation that exists in many of us.

Snoring is often caused because we either have excess tissue in the area of our throat which blocks our breathing and vibrates or because our throat is being blocked by another issue, such as with our tongue. If we are carrying around excess weight, we will typically have a much more difficult time breathing, both during the day and the specially at night. The weight does not necessarily cause us to snore but it does irritate an existing situation and causes us to snore more.

If we find that we are snoring regularly and we are carrying around additional weight on our body, the only real solution that we have is to lose the weight that we are carrying around. This is typically done through a combination of diet and exercise. Although it certainly is possible for you to lose weight and stop snoring quickly as a result of going on a faddish diet, the results will not typically be long-term. If you want to overcome your snoring problem and lose the weight permanently, you need to go about it systematically and logically.

All of us burn calories for fuel and if we are taking in enough calories during the day, that is what our body is going to use in order to get the energy that it needs. If we reduce our calorie intake with our diet or increase our calorie burn through exercise, we will end up with a calorie deficit at the end of the day. This is truly one of the only ways for you to lose weight safely and permanently. It may take a couple of weeks for you to notice a difference but once you begin losing the weight consistently, the snoring will begin to get better as well.

4 Common Allergies That Make You Snore

Posted by admin On March - 21 - 2010

Do you have a problem with snoring? You might be surprised to find out that it is coming from a problem with allergies. Even if you do not typically have allergic reactions, they can show up during the night whenever we are breathing more deeply. Here are the four most common allergies that cause snoring problems for us. Getting rid of the source of the problem is typically the best way for you to overcome your snoring problem, once and for all.

Pet Dander – Allergic reactions to pets are far more common than most people think. Even if you do not typically have a difficult time with your animals, deeply breathing at night can cause you to snore as a result of an allergic reaction. Remove the pet from your bedroom and buy an air filter. This will help with snoring problems in most cases.

Pollen – Most people realize that they have some problems with pollen allergies but few of them make that connection between this type of allergen and snoring. During the day, our hair acts as a magnet for this type of pollen and if we don’t wash our hair before bedtime, it can be transferred to the pillow. This can make for a very difficult night of sleep as we breathe the pollen in from the pillow slip.

Creams – Many of us apply creams and lotions before going to bed in order to help with our skin. If we are doing this on our own skin or if somebody that we sleep with is doing this, it may cause an allergic reaction. The easiest way for you to test for this type of allergic reaction is to remove it for a night or two and see if the snoring ceases.

Detergents – You might think that you are doing yourself a large favor by keeping your sheets cleaned regularly but if you are allergic to the detergent, it can cause a lot of problems. Try switching to a hypoallergenic detergent that is also for sensitive skin. You might be surprised to find out that the problem disappears soon after the switch is made.

With almost any type of allergy, it is a good idea for you to run a high quality air filter in your bedroom. After just one or two nights of running this filter, you should begin to notice a difference in the way that you sleep and how good you feel when you wake up.

The Connection between Weight and Snoring

Posted by admin On February - 12 - 2010

Although there are millions of us that have a problem with snoring at night, there are very few of us that actually understand how it is caused. Believe it or not, understanding the causes behind your snoring can help you to overcome it. If you are simply listening to suggestions that may come from you at every angle in order to help you with your snoring, it is very unlikely that you’re going to be able to do anything effective with it.

Snoring is typically caused by an obstruction in the soft palate of the throat area, typically because this area is relaxing while we are sleeping. One way that it can be increased, however, is if we are carrying additional weight on our body. Not only can this be bad for us in a lot of different ways, it can also increase the amount of snoring that we do because it helps to obstruct the area further. If you really want to be able to stop snoring, the first thing that you should do is to reduce the amount of weight that you are carrying around on your body.

I’m sure that you have heard this your entire life but in order to lose weight, you need to have a proper combination of diet and exercise. Simply trying to lose weight by reducing the amount of calories that you eat can work to a certain extent but it is highly unlikely that it will work for the long term. If you are suffering from snoring as a result of having too much weight on your body, you might be surprised to learn that it can be a life-threatening problem. Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing periodically through the night and this can be a direct result of additional weight on your body. Use that as a motivation if necessary to get out and exercise a little bit along with your diet.

Not only is diet and exercise going to help you with your snoring problem, it is going to help you to feel better overall. Exercising on a regular basis will reduce the amount of stress that you feel during the day and this can also help to reduce the amount of snoring that you do at night. There are so many benefits that come from losing weight if we are carrying too much of it around. Although snoring is certainly one of the great benefits that we can receive, there are also other benefits which may outweigh it.
